English first, with support when it helps
YAKKI teaches English through English. When a short explanation in the interface language helps the child understand the task and keep going, we give it.
The idea
The Direct Method teaches a language through the language itself, not through translated rules. Meaning comes from context, pictures, examples and action. Children start listening, reading, writing and speaking early.
For YAKKI this is a design orientation, not a claim that one method beats all the others.
How it works in YAKKI Available Now
Everything below is available now, except the note in the last item.
English is the learning content
Exercises, texts and the child’s answers are in English.
New language comes in context
Words and structures appear in sentences, stories and tasks — not only in lists.
The child produces the answer
Many games ask the child to write, complete or say something, not only to pick an option.
Support when it helps
Instructions, hints and feedback on answers can appear in an available interface language. Feedback on answers comes in that language up to B2 and in English from C1: the bridge fades as the level rises.
Speaking is practice
Speech is not assessed; we only give recommendations. Speech can be assessed by a live person — a curator, a tutor or a Studio teacher. To improve pronunciation, we recommend formats with a live person. A speaking game never fails a child or blocks a lesson. How speaking games work.
The adult sets the lesson level
The adult who assigns a lesson chooses its CEFR level, and the content is built for that level.
In Development automatic adjustment of difficulty for each child.
Why not English only
A picture helps a child understand I ate an apple. But the child may remember the whole sentence without noticing that ate is the past of eat — and then We ate lunch does not come. One line in the child’s language fixes that; for a Hebrew-speaking child it reads: ate = אכל (past of eat). The task stays in English, and the line goes once the skill no longer needs it.
For adults who assign practice
- Assign the lesson and its level — the app carries the repetition.
- Choose the next practice from the child’s errors and attempts.
