About

About YAKKI

YAKKI builds English practice for learners of any age. YAKKI is made by Baruch Chazon, founder, with a small team in Israel. Pedagogy leads; the technology serves it.

Why

YAKKI's exercises are for learners of any age: school students, university students and adults. They develop grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing, listening and pronunciation. This practice supports everyday English and the language skills needed for English Bagrut, AMIRNET, TOEFL iBT, IELTS, Cambridge English and PTE Academic; it is not a simulation of any one exam.

What exists today

Available Now

  • Family — learning at home, now in free testing; paid modes come with payment. Family
  • The tutor’s dashboard — the tutor’s own learners, lessons and coins. For tutors
  • Polygon — where a tutor plays a game through before assigning it. It is for adults, not for the child. For curators and Studio teachers, Polygon is in development. Polygon
  • 100+ games. The app interface is translated into ten languages, though not every language is equally ready yet.

In Development

  • Studio — our own English courses. Studio
  • A curator in Family — one adult leading one child. Curator
  • The learner model — more on the Science page

The Android app is in closed testing for tutors. Parents don’t need it: Family works in the browser. Get started

How we work

  • Pedagogy first. Every game format rests on a known learning mechanism: retrieval, repetition, feedback.
  • Honest status. We mark what is available now and what is still in development.
  • Consent comes first. A minor starts only after a parent or guardian agrees. In Family, that is the step where you create your child's card.

The research we draw on

Our approach is informed by published research on how a second language is learned, including Israeli work on English as a foreign language, on reading in Hebrew and Arabic, and on dyslexia. We cite this work; that does not mean its authors endorse YAKKI.
